How long to deep fry breaded raw chicken strips?
Q. Got the Hooters breaded and sauce and was going to make chicken strips. Have no idea how long to deep fry them?
Asked by sleepydumbdude - Tue Jan 15 16:17:24 2008 - - 4 Answers - 4 Comments
A. You need to have the oil a heck of a lot hotter than any 160* F!! If you cook them in oil that cool, they will be very greasy and take for bloody ever to get done! Your oil should be at least 350* F. and cook them until they reach an internal temperature of 165*F. In a home deep fryer, don't put in many chicken strips at the time. Overloading the fryer will cause your oil to cool too much and they will be greasy. Cook them a few at the time and keep the temperature high. Doc Hudson

Trick to store bought and restaurant deep fried food?
Q. Whats the trick to deep fried food from restaurants or like frozen breaded chicken strips bought from a store? When they bread them in the bread crumbs, they are better than when I bread them myself. Whats the secret? Is it the freezing process? I guess I dont really mean the taste or flavoring, i mean the texture and thickness of the bread crumbs...its just better, and they bake good too,the ones I make with bread crumbs come out drier.
Asked by sweetgurl2504 - Thu Jul 26 14:25:14 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. In order to make the bread crumbs stay on when they are deep fried, freeze the item you are going to deep fry for several minutes, then take out and bread the item you want to fry, if it is already hot in the kitchen, put them back in the freezer for a minutes then take out and fry!

How to make better homeade chicken strips?
Q. I got a new deep fryer, and looked up a few recipes online for homemade breaded chicken strips and used the following recipe 1 cup buttermilk 1 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 cup flour 1 cup italian seasoned breadcrumbs 1 egg They were decent. but the breading tasted more like fried chicken skin than it did chicken strip breading. and the breading itself was very very thin. so i was wondering, what do i need to change in the recipe to A: make the breading a bit thicker, so that theres more of it to taste compared to the chicken B: make it taste more like, say, Mcdonalds chicken selects, or steak n shake chicken fingers. Edit: forgot to mention i'm using an actual deep fryer to fry the chicken

A. I make two versions of chicken strips, depending on the mood and taste of what we are looking for. They are very basic. For fried chicken, I always use flour, egg, then the batter, in that order. For chicken strips, I nix the first flour dip. My flour dip for chicken strips is simply flour, seasoned with season salt, garlic powder, and a pinch of cayenne. Same for the breadcrumb dip, only using breadcrumbs as opposed to flour. You need a bowl with the dry batter, and a bowl with eggs, beaten. Dip your chicken strips into the egg and then coat them in your dry flour or breadcrumb batter. Then fry them! :) No-fail, very yummy. I promise.

Why does my deep fryer overflow?
Q. I used to cook with my deep fryer all the time, but I never remember it doing this. I just tried making onion rings, french fries and chicken strips. The onion rings and chicken strips were covered with a light batter. The french fries soaked in water for about twenty minutes, and then I dried them. No matter what I put in, the oil would foam up and overflow. I had to keep messing with it by raising and lowering the basket. What is it that I am doing wrong?

Making dinner and have no idea what side items would work. Help?
Q. I've decided that i'd like to make these chicken caesar pita type thingies for dinner tonight (basically, i'm making a caesar salad, then laying some down, with grated parmesan and all, on a large pita and then putting a long, breaded, deep fried, white meat chicken strip on top, and rolling it up into a wrap), and I have no clue what to serve it with. Any ideas? Thanks for any help! :)

A. Sounds like a complete meal in a wrap to me. I might serve some chips (potato, tortilla, vegetable) or pickles for some textural contrast. Don't forget a nice beer!

How to cook: Chicken for Mexican?
Q. Say, I want to make Mexican food tomorrow. Hard or soft tacos. And I want to substitute Ground Beef with Chicken. So either strips or cubes of chicken. 1: What do I buy when I go to the store? What's the exact name of the thing I need to buy? Is it something I order at the counter, or is it in the cold area with the Ground Beef? 2: How do I cook it? 3: Do I cut it up and then cook it? Or cook it, and then cut it up? 4: Do they sell pre-cooked diced or strips of chicken? (I tried to cook chicken once, and it went horribly, horribly wrong. Ironic, since I deep-fried thousands of chicken when I worked at Wendy's.) -Boil chicken? Really? And it takes a few hours to cook? -I have Taco seasoning, but it's for Beef only.

A. I do this all the time for my family. Just buy some boneless skinless chicken breasts at your local grocer, nothing special about them at all. I boil 3-4 boneless skinless chicken breasts for about 30 minutes in regular water (pull one out and cut it to make sure it is done). Once cooked, shred the chicken (I use a couple of forks to shred if the chicken is still hot), put in the skillet, add the taco seasoning and water as directed on package (you can use the taco seasoning for beef or buy the one for chicken - I have been using the beef one for years as they did not have a chicken one until recently and never had a problem or complaint). Prepare the rest of your meal as normal. I hope this helps!

Does some chinese food taste fake to you?
Q. Sometimes, I go to chinese buffets and they have french fries, cheeseburgers, jello, ice cream, chicken fingers, and fish sticks. However, the chinese food that they have usually sucks. It taste like cheap fake chinese food deep fried and fully of MSG. Has only else ran into this experience with fake chinese food. I think they be doin to much and can't even get their own food right. Anyone else ran into this experience? (the strip mall chinese buffet restaurant)

A. I know what you're saying... It's like saying that Olive Garden is real Italian food or that Taco Bell is real Mexican food. Buffets can be viewed as all you can eat fast food. Dishes sit out on the steam table and continue to cook, deep fried so it's easier and quicker to prepare. Dumplings are mushy, the soup is goopy... etc. Depending upon the size of the buffet... only 10 to 15% comes close to "real" Chinese food (the stir fried dishes), but those are best when fresh. Have you seen brocolli beef that's been on the steam table after an hour? It becomes salty brocolli jerky with beef jerky! Don't get me wrong. I enjoy going to the buffets, but twice a year is good enough for me. :-)
