A business (also called a company, enterprise or firm) is a legally recognized organization designed to provide goods and/or services to consumers. Businesses are predominant in capitalist economies, most being privately owned and formed to earn profit that will increase the wealth of its owners and grow the business itself. The owners and operators of a business have as one of their main objectives the receipt or generation of a financial return in exchange for work and acceptance of risk. Notable exceptions include cooperative enterprises and state-owned enterprises. Businesses can also be formed not-for-profit or be state-owned. The etymology of "business" relates to the state of being busy either as an individual or society as a whole, doing commercially viable and profitable work. The term "business" has at least three usages, depending on the scope — the singular usage (above) to mean a particular company or corporation, the generalized usage to refer to a particular market sector, such as "the music business" and compound forms such as agribusiness, or the broadest meaning to include all activity by the community of suppliers of goods and services. However, the exact definition of business, like much else in the philosophy of business, is a matter of debate and complexity of meanings From Wikipedia under the

Q. I am opening an online business for website design. (set up as a LLC, I'm the sole owner) Should I start keeping receipts of all business related expenses? Or would my business qualify as a hobby if I don't make a certain amount of money in the year that I'm filing. What types of things can I write off onto my business? (dinners, gasoline, etc.) Do I need a seperate business credit card/bank account for the expenses? Do I have to accept payments towards the business's services through a corporate account, or can they make the check/payment directly to me? Asked by Ken - Tue Jun 19 18:29:52 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. You need to keep accurate records when running a business. This will be your best defense if you ever get audited. For IRS purposes, you need to make a profit every 3 out of 5 years to have the IRS prove that you are not running a business. Otherwise, it is up to you to prove that you are running a business and not doing a hobby. You can prove that you are running a business by keeping your business accounts and personal accounts separate. You can write off any legitimate business expense including dinners with clients, car expenses, equipment, etc. Having a separate checking account and credit card is a good idea. However, it isn't necessary. You can comingle your business and personal expenses using your personal accounts. I'm currently an undergrad at a liberal arts school. I'm planning on majoring in either politics or philosophy, and a minor in business. After i get my degree, would i be capable of getting hired or nonetheless get an interview with a firm or bank. Also, could a business internship help the situation? Asked by Vinny the Chin - Thu Dec 10 17:45:15 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. A business internship would definitely help. May I suggest majoring in business if that major is available, in which case you could minor in politics or philosophy. As you can take additional politics or philosophy courses as electives in addition to those required for a minor, you could still get a good education in one of those subjects. If a major in business is not available, I would suggest that you take as electives any additional available business courses which are not required for the minor. I would also suggest taking additional business courses during the summer at the most prestigious university possible during any summer in which you do not have an internship. Some of the most prestigious universities in the country,… [cont.] Answered by ownpool - Thu Dec 10 18:10:50 2009 Do you think a fee based business acquaintance service can be a profitable industry?
