Beer is the world's oldest and most widely consumed alcoholic beverage and the third most popular drink overall after water and tea. It is produced by the brewing and fermentation of starches, mainly derived from cereal grains—most commonly malted barley, although wheat, maize (corn), and rice are widely used. Most beer is flavoured with hops, which add bitterness and act as a natural preservative, though other flavourings such as herbs or fruit may occasionally be included. Some of humanity's earliest known writings refer to the production and distribution of beer: the Code of Hammurabi included laws regulating beer and beer parlours, and "The Hymn to Ninkasi," a prayer to the Mesopotamian goddess of beer, served as both a prayer and as a method of remembering the recipe for beer in a culture with few literate people. Today, the brewing industry is a global business, consisting of several dominant multinational companies and many thousands of smaller producers ranging from brewpubs to regional breweries. The basics of brewing beer are shared across national and cultural boundaries. Beers are commonly categorized into two main types—the globally popular pale lagers, and the regionally distinct ales, which are further categorised into other varieties such as pale ale, stout and brown ale. The strength of beer is usually around 4% to 6% alcohol by volume (abv.) though may range from less than 1% abv., to over 20% abv. in rare cases. Beer forms part of the culture of beer-drinking nations and is associated with social traditions such as beer festivals, as well as a rich pub culture involving activities like pub crawling and pub games such as bar billiards. Q. I mean mainly the aromatics. Not any exact beer but just the tye/style of beer that might compare. Asked by BEER Consortium - Wed Oct 28 20:04:16 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. The best bet would be a hefeweizen. Since you need a comparison between the finishes of the two, many hefe's carry a phenolic note the result of 4-vinyl guaiacol. But this is a clove flavor and not the banana and ginger notes you get the this Scotch. Therefore, you might chose a wit beer. It has the added spice notes of coriander and orange. [Wait some wheats do have a banana note from (yes, yeast) amyl acetate).] I think it would be interesting to age one of these wheat beers in wood and specifically whisky wood. Hoegaarden Hacker-Pschorr Ayinger Answered by BEERgOD - Sun Nov 1 14:42:35 2009 How do I prevent guys from wasting beer at a party? Q. I am having a party and bought many cases of bottled beer. From experience I know that much beer gets wasted because someone puts their bottle down next to a bunch of other bottles on the table, and because they don't remember which one is theirs that take another fresh one leaving a half drank beer wasted. At the end of the night, I have to dump dozens of half drank beers. Such a waste. How do I prevent that from happening? Asked by FREDDYN - Sat May 31 22:51:15 2008 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments A. geez, sounds like they shouldn't set their bottle down till it's finished, or don't be a puss and pick up the bottle with the most still in it. or just get a couple of cases of PBR for $10 and make em drink that lol.. Answered by hatedheretic - Sun Jun 1 00:55:06 2008 What is the best kind of beer to use in beer can chicken recipes?
Q. And is the can supposed to be full when you are done? I tried a recipe using a can of Coors and I don't think the beer added any flavor at all. Asked by M BAIT - Thu Nov 9 13:52:03 2006 - - 15 Answers - 1 Comments A. You could try Honey Brown by JW, you'll want something with some "body" to it. The flavor comes from the steam. You should pick something with a flavor you really like. Just remember that beers like Budweiser and Coors are mostly water... Sam Adams is "hoppy-er" and will have more flavor, but look to your micro-brews for the really good flavors. Or, try a good import beer, like Killians. The flavor will be more mild than if you were drinking the beer. You can also try adding a shot of something like Southern Comfort to the beer, it will just add another flavor layer. Have fun and experiment. I personally like the flavor of Mt Dew. Its a little citrus-y and sweet. Answered by ladywyrmling29 - Thu Nov 9 19:37:50 2006 From Yahoo Answer Search: "beer" |
