Adjectiveatmospheric (comparative more atmospheric, superlative most atmospheric)
SynonymsFrom Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. An atmosphere (from Greek ἀτμός - atmos "vapor" and σφαῖρα - sphaira "sphere") is a layer of gases that may surround a material body of sufficient mass, and that is held in place by the gravity of the body. An atmosphere may be retained for a longer duration, if the gravity is high and the atmosphere's temperature is low. Some planets consist mainly of various gases, but only their outer layer is their atmosphere (see gas giants). The term stellar atmosphere describes the outer region of a star, and typically includes the portion starting from the opaque photosphere outwards. Relatively low-temperature stars may form compound molecules in their outer atmosphere. Earth's atmosphere, which contains oxygen used by most organisms for respiration and carbon dioxide used by plants, algae and cyanobacteria for photosynthesis, also protects living organisms from genetic damage by solar ultraviolet radiation. Its current composition is the product of billions of years of biochemical modification of the paleoatmosphere by living organisms. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How atmospheric pressure is inserted in the pressure gauge? Q. My ques is, what is the contribution or benefit using atmospheric pressure in the pressure gauge, Asked by Zunaead S - Thu Jul 10 06:43:56 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Almost all pressure gages are manufactured as differential gages. Atmospheric pressure can be introduced by calibrating the gage against a mercury barometer of an aneroid barometer made with as near a perfect vacuum as can be attained inside. Two applications of adjusting for atmospheric pressure are: Absolute pressure is necessary for calculations involving Boyle's Law or the Ideal Gas Law. Altimeters are essentially pressure gages, and must be adjusted to local atmospheric pressure in order to read out "true" altitude. Q. Explain why helium weather balloons, which are used to measure atmospheric conditions at high altitude, are normally released while filled to only 10%-20% of their maximum volume. 13-14 please help thanks! Asked by Callie - Wed Nov 28 00:44:02 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. If that is the case it's because the volume of air pushing against the balloon and consequently the helium inside is much greater at sea level. Once the balloon ascends into the atmosphere the conditions are less dense allowing for expansion. If the balloon were to be filled to near capacity it would potentially burst from the expansion of the gas, which wouldn't be good for the instruments being carried or the data it was supposed to collect. Hope that helps. Answered by HotDockett - Wed Nov 28 00:50:58 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "atmospheric" Hamburg watchful of rising Huron River level
