Food is any substance, usually composed of carbohydrates, fats, proteins and water, that can be eaten or drunk by an animal, including humans, for nutrition or pleasure. Items considered food may be sourced from plants, animals or other categories such as fungus or fermented products like alcohol. Although many human cultures sought food items through hunting and gathering, today most cultures use farming, ranching, and fishing, with hunting, foraging and other methods of a local nature included but playing a minor role. Most traditions have a recognizable cuisine, a specific set of cooking traditions, preferences, and practices, the study of which is known as gastronomy. Many cultures have diversified their foods by means of preparation, cooking methods and manufacturing. This also includes a complex food trade which helps the cultures to economically survive by-way-of food, not just by consumption. Many cultures study the dietary analysis of food habits. While humans are omnivores, religion and social constructs such as morality often affect which foods they will consume. Food safety is also a concern with foodborne illness claiming many lives each year. In many languages, food is often used metaphorically or figuratively, as in "food for thought". Q. A mom cat and her kittens adopted my patio a little while ago, and naturally I've been trying to leave some food and water out for them as often as possible. The mom cat was very skinny so I have been feeding her extra foods packed with vitamins and fats, like chicken, special dry & canned cat food, turkey, some beef, and she LOVES biscuits and cheese! :) But she never seems to gain any weight. I want to make sure she is eating enough to produce milk for her kittens and remain healthy, but it doesn't seem to matter what food I give her. Any food recommendations for a nursing stray cat? Also... If they stay around any longer, I will have to take them to the shelter but I'd rather give them to people who will provide a good home. Give the mother small amounts of yoghurt & PROPER kitten milk (or goats milk - as it is lactose free) out for them. Also, the mother might like some red meat (such as beef) minced & a raw egg in it. You need to make sure the mother's diet is high in calcium so the kittens get the calcium through her milk to ensure they don't have low calcium levels and break their little legs a little while down the track Also, if the mother is now very skinny & not putting weight on, it may be an idea to worm her with a worming treatment that is suitable for breast-feeding queens...as I live in a different country I don't know what is available where you are,… [cont.] Answered by SiameseLuver - Fri Jul 6 04:52:01 2007 How much fresh food should I supplement a dog's kibble with, and how often should I feed him canned food? Q. I just got a 2 month old black lab. I tried buying some kibble without so many of the byproducts, preservatives and stuff, but even then I still have my doubts about it. I want to supplement the commercial food with fresh foods, but I don't know how much to give him, nor do I know how much kibble. And how often should I feed him canned food? Asked by T.B. - Wed Dec 31 00:50:57 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Your dog can be entirely fed on Raw. If you wish to feed a mix of Raw and kibble, and there are some good reasons to do that, then keep the two separate, for instance, feed kibble for the morning meal and Raw for the evening. Research Raw feeding on line, it'll only take a couple hours of reading to understand it, there are several models, and I'd not claim that one is superior to the other. I don't use vegetables myself, just Green Tripe and a SeaMeal supplement, but those who do use vegetables are equally successful. Tripe is a highly recommended starter food to get a puppy on raw, and then I personally start them on whole ground chicken. I wouldn't bother with canned food at all. Answered by pete_tina_seiko - Wed Dec 31 01:36:40 2008 How will food and necessities be made available and distributed if there is a depression?
Q. In the 30's Depression, food became scarce and many things unavailable. But then 50% of the people grew their own food. Every body traded for goods and services because there was no money. No jobs. Losing a house is one thing, but no food is quite another. Asked by ifoyo - Mon Oct 27 02:02:55 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. superheros?
