An herbal tea, tisane, or ptisan is an herbal infusion made from anything other than the leaves of the tea bush (Camellia sinensis).

Composition

Herbal teas can be made with fresh or dried flowers, leaves, seeds or roots, generally by pouring boiling water over the plant parts and letting them steep for a few minutes. Seeds and roots can also be boiled on a stove. The tisane is then strained, sweetened if so desired, and served. Many companies produce herbal tea bags for such infusions.

On the other hand, flavoured teas are prepared by adding other plants to an actual tea (black, oolong, green, yellow, or white tea); for example, the popular Earl Grey tea is black tea with bergamot, jasmine tea is Chinese tea with jasmine flowers, and genmaicha is a Japanese green tea with toasted rice.

Is there one herbal tea that is better for you than others?
Q. I know green tea is supposedly good if you're trying to lose weight, but I'm wondering is there any one herbal tea that is better for you than the others or are they all equally good for you? I like them all.

A. They are all good. Herbal tends to lean towards no caffeine. Where as any other tends to have some caffeine in it, hence green or black tea. All teas are good, it comes down to more of a preference. Green tea has less caffeine yet all the anti-oxidants. But I also drink chai which has black tea plus the anti-oxidants. Does caffeine matter to you. Do you like mint or lavender Drink what tastes good to you and enjoy.

A. 5 years ago..I started drinking green tea (5-7 cups a day), and worked out an hour every day and lost 35 lbs in a couple of months. Green tea (freshly brewed, nothing added) sort of boosted my metabolism and curbed my appetite. And I also didn't eat past 6pm. After that I met my bf and 5 years later I'm back at where I started. But the thing is it doesn't make a difference if I drink green tea or not..because my body is already used to it. So if it's your first time drinking green tea then you could definitely lose some weight, but make sure you don't gain it all back. Eat healthy and exercise. (I wish I would listen to my own advice) Good luck! P.S. Loose green tea leaves are great, but green tea bags are good too! Just don't add… [cont.]
