Apple Pie Everclear Shot's Storage?
Q. I'm making a batch of the Apple Pie alcoholic drink that you make with Everclear. I'm trying to figure out the best way to store it until New Year's Eve though. I'm a pre-planner and want to have everything ready to go plus the longer you let this stuff sit the yummier it is. I'm afraid if it's not stored properly it will go bad but I'm not sure what container to use. Here is a list of the ingrediants: Apple Juice Apple Cider White Sugar Cinnamon Sticks Everclear Thanks!

A. the main ingredient is Everclear, which has a ton of alcohol it would likely be good for about 100 years if you just make it and seal the container and leave it in a dark location.

A. My friends and I have always used this recipe from drinksmixer (url in sources). There's a few different ways to make it, but the essential trick is do NOT let it boil. If you do, the apple cider flavor gets lost. We've also added on occasion allspice and nutmeg - its your personal taste that matters the most. 1 gallon apple juice 1/2 gallon fresh apple cider 3 - 4 cinnamon sticks 1 liter Everclear alcohol Put the juice, cider, and cinnamon sticks into a pan and let simmer on the stove for about 2 hours (not boil). Turn off heat, pour in 1 liter or 2/3 liter Everclear (no taste of alcohol) to the batch. Let cool and serve.

A. Well, look at the recipe Mayor west gave. You have 1qt of 95% ethanol in 2 gallons of non-alcoholic drink. That's already a 1:8 ratio, with the 95% ethanol figured in it becomes 10.55% ABV. That's less than wine has. I would say you can feel the alcohol in wine more than taste it. Around 20%+ I generally begin to actually taste the alcohol, rather than feel it. Now, with 2 qts of Everclear you have a 2:8 ratio, which produces a 19% ABV drink. And everclear is a nearly pure ethanol, so it shouldn't impart a distinctive flavor of its own. What you end up tasting is the alcohol, which doesn't have a flavor so much as a sensation anyways.
