Drinking water or potable water is water of sufficiently high quality that it can be consumed or used without risk of immediate or long term harm. In most developed countries, the water supplied to households, commerce and industry is all of drinking water standard, even though only a very small proportion is actually consumed or used in food preparation. Over large parts of the world, humans have inadequate access to potable water and use sources contaminated with disease vectors, pathogens or unacceptable levels of dissolved chemicals or suspended solids. Such water is not potable and drinking or using such water in food preparation leads to widespread acute and chronic illnesses and is a major cause of death in many countries. Reduction of waterborne diseases is a major public health goal in developing countries. Typically, water supply networks deliver potable water, whether it is to be used for drinking, washing or landscape irrigation. One counterexample is urban China, where drinking water can optionally be delivered by a separate tap. From Wikipedia under the

From Google News Search: "Drinking water" Does drinking water after drinking wine make you drunker, or get you drunk again, and why? Q. I've been a fan of wine for a long time. I have many friends that say wine is great, because after drinking wine, you can drink water, and get drunker or drunk again. Or after a night of drinking wine, in the morning if you drink water, you'll get drunk again. Being an avid wine fan, I have yet to ever experience this amazing phenomenon. So, is it true, and if so, why does it work. Asked by Axelpeddle - Sun Dec 30 23:49:45 2007 - - 5 Answers - 3 Comments A. I am an avid wine drinker and this is simply not true. Period. The end. Answered by red - Sun Dec 30 23:53:22 2007 How much water should I be drinking during the day? Q. I go to work and school everyday from 8 to 5, and find that I never remember to drink water. I spend all day running back and forth from work to class, and can barely finish half a bottle of water by the time 5 rolls around. I drink a glass when I get home before bed, but how much water should I be drinking in that 8 to 5 time period? Would one full bottle be enough? Or should I concentrate on drinking more? Here is an article I've found so it can put things in place for you: A person should drink at least 8 glasses of water in a day. People who do not drink adequate amounts of water can end up having many problems with their health. One of the most common problems due to insufficient intake of water is dehydration. This should not be taken lightly as it can be fatal for elderly people and infants. Water is very beneficial for the body and we should not neglect drinking it. Everyday we lose large amounts of water as we go about our normal activities. We lose water when we urinate, sweat and even breathe. Therefore, you should keep replenishing the water in your body by drinking at regular intervals. Q. We all have experinced that immedietely drinking water after eating or while taking amla (Indian Gooseberry) gives a sweet taste to mouth. Why this happens ? Is the reverse case possible where first we take a sweet fruit (thing) and after eating it the mouth becomes bitter/sour ? Asked by bsure - Mon Oct 15 03:29:19 2007 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments A. Yes, the reverse is possible. After eating the Indian melon (orange in colour), if one drinks water, one can feel some bitterness/sourness in the tongue. Therefore it is always advised that after eating melon, one should wait for atleast half an hour before drinking water.
