How does the bus system in Auckland work?
Q. I am travelling to Auckland in a few weeks. How and where do I purchase a day-pass for travelling around Auckland city and places such as Ponsonby, if any?

A. Tickets can be purchased at official sellers or much easier directly from a bus driver or at a ferry ticket counter. There are two different day passes, one called the daytripper for $7.50(NZ) that allowes you to travel zone A and B for a day (roughly 8-10 km around the centre). The other one is the Auckland Day-Pass for $11 (used to be 10.40 until Feb. 07) that allowes you to travel all Stagecoach busses and the innercity ferries to Devonport, Birkenhead and Halfmoon Bay. You shouldn't miss Devonport! The ferry to Birkenhead is nice if you have spare time, because you will go underneath the harbour bridge. There is one bus called link, you can use it either with your day pass or for 1.50 a trip. It cirlcles around the city and stops at… [cont.]

How do they Asians seem to set up a Buisness so easily in Auckland?
Q. Im really inspired to set up a Business that ive always wanted to (an Internet Cafe) in Auckland but been too scared...but yet I see many Asians who no doubt started off in a worse financial situation than myself..setting up and successfully running businesses... Has anyone got any tips or advice?..or info on how they seem to accomplish it so easily!
Asked by Paul - Thu Nov 12 04:08:16 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I find that many Asians do not trust anybody. They prefer to spend cash vs. credit and work within their immediate family for support and services. They almost never offer anything for free or credit, it's a cash and carry principle. Products are often faulty and made of poor construction hence the no return policy.

How much money per hour do I need to make to survive in Auckland?
Q. Assuming I work full-time, I was wondering how much money I'll need to make. I'm thinking about moving the North Island, maybe Auckland or Wellington. How much money will I need to make to survive?
Asked by Steve - Tue Nov 25 15:07:21 2008 - - 5 Answers - 1 Comments

A. If you work fulltime, the minimum wage should be enough provided you don't have high standards when it comes to living- you can rent a room with in a shared house for as low as 100 dollars per week in Auckland. If you're careful with money, you can get by with around 650 a week, including food, accomodation, etc. Hope that helped.

Where in Auckland, New Zealand are Arabic language lessons taught?
Q. Hello all. I am a multilingual lover of languages and I want to add to my repertoire by trying Arabic. I was wondering where in (preferably central) Auckland I can find a place that gives lessons. Obviously, there is the option of a private tutor but finding an institution that gives traditional classes would be great. Thanks.
Asked by jverqjspa - Mon Jun 16 02:18:58 2008 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Only popular languages are taught in classes in Auckland - like your standard French & Italian & for business & employment reasons - Mandarin & Japanese. Most people aren't into learning Arabic so you would have to go private. I've not even seen anyone advertising this privately so you'd need to enquire at some kind of Arabic organisation or consulate, etc in NZ. And try in the basement at Borders Bookstore on Queen St. They have a huge language section with books & CD's.

Where can I buy a degu in Auckland?
Q. Degus are cute, I used to have four when I lived in Finland. Where could I get them in Auckland? Thanks for any help! Thanks to all for your answers! I found out from an Auckland pet store that there aren't any degus here (or shuldn't be) and you cannot import them, in case they bring foreign germs and sickness. That's a shame.
Asked by Mar1 - Fri Sep 5 19:43:02 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I've been looking everywhere online since I saw this question, and I can not find anything. ): I assume degus aren't very well known in New Zealand, huh? That worries me, because I wonder if the ones that are there, if they are cared for and fed properly. :x (overprotective degu owner. x3) You should check every so often, because you might be able to find someone who can't take care of theirs anymore, and are looking for a new home. There is also , but a majority of people that post there are from the USoA and Canada, so chances of finding someone in Auckland post there is very slim. And also check newspaper classifieds, and shelters as they might have some degus for adoption. I will try my best to see if I can find any other… [cont.]

What's the appropriate clothes to wear in auckland right now?
Q. I'll be traveling in New Zealand, driving from Auckland to Wellington, then flying to Christchurch, from Aug. 3-Aug. 17, and I'm wondering what kind of clothes to bring for the trip. I'm coming from Hawai'i, so am not very used to cold weather, but do I need to bring gloves, scarves, thick sweaters, the whole deal? How's the weather there right now?
Asked by mamakau - Thu Jul 24 17:58:29 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. At the moment it is very cold, even in Auckland.( the high was 13 celsius.) My computer says 9 degrees in Auckland but the temps for further south are mostly in the minuses at night and anything from 6 to about 13 daytime. Today the coldest high was 4 degrees. If you are lucky you may get days at 13-16 degrees. But you can't count on it! So you will need gloves, hat, scarf, warm jumpers, warm coat or jacket - Wellington can get cold and windy. You will need to keep an eye on the weather forecast as if you are driving to Wellington and it snows the Desert road can be closed. Right at this moment we are waiting for a storm( cyclone type) to hit the North Island tomorrow. Hopefully by the time you arrive in a couple of weeks it will be… [cont.]

What is the best thing to do in Auckland, New Zealand if I only have a few hours in the city?
Q. I have an approximately 9 hour layover in Auckland, New Zealand and having never been to New Zealand I would like to get out and see the city. I am looking for something fun to do that won't take me too far from the airport or make me miss my flight and that won't break the bank. Basically I am wondering if there is something that you just have to do while in Auckland.
Asked by kc - Wed Jun 3 10:10:31 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The airport is a good 40min drive from the city and as it's an industrial area there's really not much to see close to the airport. I suggest leaving your luggage in a locker and taking a bus to the city centre - visit the Sky Tower and have a meal at the waterfront (there are tons of restaurants down there).

A. Try getting an apartment in Auckland Central, there are heaps around if you check out the property part of Trademe.co.nz you can browse hundreds, if not in the city stick to the city fringe suburbs such as Mt Eden & Ponsonby where its just a 10 minute bus ride to the city. I live in Mt Eden and its easy to get everywhere either driving or busing!!!
